Industrial Machinery for a New Steel Facility in the USA
In December 2024, Ahlers’ Industry & Energy team successfully delivered two oversize industrial units from Ambarli Port, Türkiye, to a steel processing facility under construction in West Virginia, USA. This challenging project had a tight deadline and required expert coordination.
The two industrial units, each weighing a massive 43 tons, presented significant logistical challenges. Their size and weight ruled out conventional shipping options, requiring a breakbulk solution on a container vessel heading to the U.S. East Coast. In agreement with the customer, direct loading from trucks onto a bed of flatracks was organized, ensuring the safety of the cargo, vessel, and crew during the ocean voyage. Adding to the complexity was the tight deadline imposed by the end-receiver.
Ahlers took on the task of obtaining OOG permits and technical approvals — a process that demanded both precision and persistence under time constraints.
To ensure efficiency at every stage, Ahlers coordinated a direct discharge operation from the vessel onto lowbed trailers at the U.S. port of discharge. This maneuver saved valuable time by eliminating prolonged port storage and handling.
The final leg of the journey, from the port to the construction site, required private escorts to prevent disruptions and ensure the safe and timely arrival of the cargo.
At Ahlers, we specialize in solving complex logistics challenges to keep your projects moving forward.
