Enhancing Warehousing Operations for a Leading Industrial Machinery Manufacturer in Kazakhstan
Background
In 2023, a leading European industrial machinery manufacturer sought a new third-party logistics (3PL) provider to optimize efficiency in its warehousing operations. Already present in Karaganda, a key industrial hub in central Kazakhstan, the company needed a reliable partner to streamline its storage and logistics for heavy machinery and spare parts.
Karaganda plays a crucial role in Kazakhstan's industrial landscape, contributing 8% ($6.3 billion) to the national industrial output in 2024. The region, known for its strong resource potential and intense mining activities, experienced an industrial sector growth of 11.3% in the same year. However, despite its rapid growth, Karaganda presents challenges. One of the key difficulties for warehousing here is the gap between supply and demand, with available facilities often falling short. New warehouses are being built, but they are quickly filled. Additionally, recruiting local employees might be challenging; a local team fluent in Kazakh will be essential to manage the project effectively.
Solution
Ahlers took on the challenge and, within six months, successfully identified and leased a suitable facility, established all necessary operational, warehousing, and IT infrastructure, and recruited, onboarded, and trained a skilled local team. Our advantage during the project was our long-time presence in Kazakhstan with 30+ years of experience. This ensured seamless integration into the customer’s operations and enabled a swift and efficient launch.
The transition period in September 2023 saw stock transferred from the previous 3PL provider to Ahlers, with operations managed across both locations. Ahlers ensured a seamless transition with minimal disruption, allowing the customer to maintain business continuity.
Our warehousing facility includes both internal and external storage. Internally, we provide rack, shelf, and floor storage. Externally, we have an open storage area and a dedicated container yard to accommodate various types of cargo.
