As a response to the 9/11 attacks, the International Ship and Port Facility Security (ISPS) code came into force on 1st July 2004. For many years now, ships of 500 gross tonnage and upwards in international trade, passenger vessels and the ports they are calling, are required to be ISPS certified.

The ISPS Code for ships includes the establishment of a certified Ship Security Plan and the presence of Ship Security and Company Security Officers (SSO and CSO).

Port facilities need a certified Port Facility Security Plan and the presence of Port Facility Security Officers. The plan has to ensures the application of measurements designed to protect the port facility and ships, persons and cargo within the port facility from the risks of a security incident .

Ahlers is fully accredited to carry out security assessments and prepare security plans for offshore facilities, port facilities and vessels.

With specialized training courses, at your site or in one of our dedicated training centers, we can help your staff achieve certification in a number of areas including:

  • Ship Security Officer (SSO)
  • Company Security Officer (CSO)

  • ...

“Clients don’t just appreciate our professionalism and efficiency,’’ says Renaud David, ISPS expert at Ahlers. “Our experience also allows us to give tailor-made advice on how to achieve ISPS certification in the most cost-effective way.”

Renaud David continuous: “For a client’s offshore platform for example, we helped determine the best solution for the installation of a so-called ‘panic room’. We advised the client to install this room during the actual construction of the platform instead of installing it at a later stage, which would have been much more invasive and expensive. The client followed our advice and saved himself and his crew more than a headache.”

As a Recognized Security Organization (RSO) in accordance with the ISPS Code, Ahlers has completed many assessments in different countries, e.g. Belgium, the Republic of Congo, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Togo, Gabon, Benin and Cameroon, and for globally operating oil & gas companies.
