New Warehouse Management System (WMS) at Ahlers EDC /25 Feb 2011/
Rcently, a new WMS (Warehouse Management System) was installed at the Ahlers EDC in Everghem/Ghent.What makes the system unique is that the specific requirements with regard to the storage of hazardous goods are taken into account. The WMS knows which product can be stored in a particular zone or compartment. Because the system works with X, Y and Z coordinates, there is also a dynamic calculation of the optimal location within a given hazardous goods class.
Besides the focus on hazardous goods, the WMS offers more advantages. The operations are now supported via RF-barcode scanning. Each pallet gets a barcode immediately upon receipt, so all movements in the warehouse can be traced. RF supports also VAL activities, such as labeling and wrapping.
Other highlights are the real time view on inventory and the status of the working orders e.g. picking, consolidation, ready to ship. Also the customs status is included in the WMS. Customized reports can be provided upon request and finally the WMS is able to communicate data with other systems via EDI messages.
