Ahlers starts second phase of logistic centre in St. Petersburg /08 Mar 2006/

Ahlers has started the second phase of the construction of its new logistic centre in St. Petersburg. This second phase, containing the construction of a second warehouse block of 13.000 m2 and a new access infrastructure by road & rail for the site, is expected to be operational at the end of 2006. After this, the logistic centre will comply with all requirements to operate as a new customs terminal. In addition to the 80 staff currently employed, the new warehouse will offer 30 new jobs. The construction of the second phase represents a 15 million USD investment.

The logistic centre is strategically located near the new ring road and close to the airport and as such it will be connected with different transport links and modes, containing bonded and free storage facilities and full terminal infrastructure. In addition to storage and cargo handling, also added value activities can be performed, and the distribution process is organized.
A first warehouse of 11.000 m2 was completed in December 2005 and is already fully occupied by international customers. The warehouse has a clear height of 8.6 m and proposes 12,000 pallet positions. It is frostfree and fully sprinklered, ventilated and equipped with a fire security system, a video-controlled alarm system and warehouse management system.

Ahlers' clients in Russia are large Russian and international companies to whom global logistic solutions covering multimodal transport, customs brokerage, warehousing and distribution are proposed.

During a meeting in Antwerp, the General Contractor Omega visited some Belgian distribution centres to get further acquainted with the commissioner's standards. Omega is a Russian contractor located in St. Petersburg, and has built offices, show rooms, hotels and warehouses in the North West Region for Porsche, Landrover, Maksidom, Camioli and a long list of first class references.
