The Sevan Driller is a mobile offshore drilling and storage unit (MODSU) of Sevan design. The unit is classed to Det Norske Veritas (DNV) "Rules for the Classification of Mobile Offshore Units". The rig is designed for worldwide use in ultra-deep water. The unit is self-propelled and in transit voyages the rig will not require towing assistance.
Ahlers Maritime is in charge of the logistic services during the journey from Shanghai to the Brazilian coast, with planned operations at Singapore, Port Kelang, La Réunion and Cape Town.
The scope of works includes following non-exhaustive works:
Sevan Marine also has a crewing agreement with Ahlers Maritime (for the journey as well as for future operational activities).
The unit maintains station by dynamic positioning in water depths ranging from 500 to 3000 meters (up to 10.000 feet).
Station keeping in DP mode is achieved by 8, fixed pitch, variable speed thrusters. The DP system meets IMO Class 3 operational requirements.
The Sevan Driller is registered in the Bahamas’ Ship Register and complies with the latest and relevant international rules and regulations for world-wide operations.
The vessel has a state of the art well proven and recognized drilling equipment. The drilling equipment comprises a derrick with a 1000 tons hook load with an active and passive crown block compensation system. The derrick is arranged for simultaneous drilling and building of drill-string or casing stands. Quadruple range 2 drill pipe stands and triple casing stands may be stored in the setback racking area within the derrick. Large diameter casings (i.e. 30” and 20”) are built in sections in separate casing building position below drill floor in parallel with top-hole drilling operation.
