Group SEB renews contract with Ahlers Logistic Center in St Petersburg /13 Feb 2008/

Renaud de Butler, General Manager CIS of Groupe SEB explains: “In 2003 Groupe SEB entered into a business relationship with Ahlers to develop its activities in Russia. Ahlers enables Groupe SEB to cope with its growing business requirements. Our business grows 10 to 20% year after year. Ahlers has always been able to support us by means of investments in new warehouses, setting up new processes, customising its Warehouse Management System (WMS) and attracting new qualified staff….”

Groupe SEB imports goods from Europe and China to the port of St Petersburg. Ahlers Logistic Center (ALC)takes care of the inbound flow, the storage and order processing for the local retailers, the cross dock center in Moscow and the distributors in the Eastern part of Russia and Ukraine.

Ahlers pro-active and customer driven attitude enabled them to secure the business which resulted in this renewed and long term commitment. The in-house developed WMS called STORE has been customised to the specific needs of Groupe SEB. It was the first operation in Russia which is fully supported by Radio Frequency. The operation runs 7 days a week and employs about 40 people. Ahlers Logistic Centre covers a surface of 25,000 m². The start of the next extension with 17,000 m² (37,500 pallet places) is foreseen for spring this year.

Ahlers Logistic Center (ALC) is strategically located, near the new ring road and close to the airport. A complete terminal infrastructure is present, with transhipment possibilities of and to several transport modalities. Besides warehousing and order processing, additional services are provided, as well as the organisation of the complete distribution process.

Major customers of Ahlers in Russia are large international companies to which overall logistic solutions are offered, with among others multimode transports, customs formalities, warehousing and distribution.

Ahlers St. Petersburg was the first independent office in the former Soviet - Union and was opened in 1992. Today St Petersburg is the largest Ahlers office in the CIS and employs 170 people.
