ACT : what can Ahlers offer you in Asia-CIS transportation? /21 Jan 2008/
Through its network of offices and wide variety of services Ahlers is a key-player in the Asia-CIS trade.According to the World Bank, world GDP will grow approximately at 2% annually from $30 billion in 2000 up to $40 billion in 2010. Cargo traffic between Asia to Europe is growing at 12% annually and will continue for the next 8 years. Volumes of containerised cargo will reach 145 million TEUs in 2010 from 73 million in 2001. Against Russia’s oil and gas economic boom, the cargo traffic between Asia and Europe will grow averagely, 5.6% annually for the next 5 years.
Do you know....?
- Fact: Last year, 3.2 million containers were shipped through Russia or 8767 TEUs per day.
- 64% handled through N.W. ports (St. Petersburg alone accounted 53%), 26% through Far Eastern ports and 10% through Black Sea ports (mostly Novorossiysk).
- More than 10 routes to CIS via Trans-Siberian Railway. Advantage; short transit of 11 days from Zabaikalsk (Russian-Chinese border crossing) to Moscow.
It is said that problems begin with cargo arrival at Russia customs. As a result, cargo may get stuck in storehouses because of customs delays or it won’t be delivered to final customer in time. - Custom registration is passed in 2 days; 80 to 90% of the time at least. For large companies and global brands, registration is just under 4 hours.
To address the issue of under declaration of customs value of goods, the Russian customs constantly distribute so called “Standard of Price” which specifies the lower limit for the customs clearance. - Customs dues and VAT recovery in courts take several months. 35-40% of Russian budget comes from customs duty.
Since last year, the Russian Government introduced zero rate for many group of goods, mostly for technological products. In order to zero rate the product must correspond to harmonized commodity description and coding system.
