Ahlers appointed as logistic provider for Belgian olympic sailing team /10 Jul 2007/
The next Olympic Summer Games will take place in Beijing, China in 2008. Ahlers has been appointed as logistic provider for the Belgian olympic sailing team.In August 2007, the pre-Olympic Games will be held at Qingdao, China. While the athletes are competing in the world championships in Cascais/Portugal in July where they will try to meet the selection criteria for the Olympics, Ahlers will organise the overseas transport of their equipment to China. The shipment consists of 2 sailing boats and 2 motorboats, loaded in one 20’ and one 40’ container. These containers were loaded at the Ahlers’ warehouse in Ghent in the presence of the athletes.
After the pre-Olympics in Qingdao, the equipment will be shipped to Australia and New Zeeland, where the athletes will start their winter training programme. After the training period, the equipment is moved back to China where the final preparation programme will start as from March 2008. The Olympic Games opening ceremony will take place on 8th of August 2008 in Beijing.
The Belgian team consists of following athletes:
- Evi Van Acker (class laser radial) is currently ranked number one in the world. This year, she won 4 golden medals in her category
- in the Tornado class (catamaran), Belgium is represented by Sebastien (Sebbe) Godefroid and Carolijn Brouwer. Sebbe already won a silver medal at the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta; in July 2007 Carolijn and Sebbe got the silver on the World Championships in Portugal
- Sigrid Rondelez will represent Belgium in windsurfing.
